Journey To The Center Of Insanity
We arrived here a few hours earlier, safe and sound.
I can’t say much about sane.
I had forgotten how…trying…car travel with toddlers could be.
Even armed with movies and a whole tub of organic lollies, Creux was still going bananas.
He must’ve figured if he screamed, “I WANT OUT!” loud and long enough that someone would do something about it.
We did eventually.
Like nine hours later :)
Our Columbus start was a rough one and we nearly ended up in a ditch somewhere just outside of the city.
It was scary and definitely made me reconsider our decision to get on the road so quickly after that storm.
But by the time we hit Cincinnati, the snowy roads weren’t snowy any longer.
Kentucky and Tennessee were totally clear and the drive really wasn’t so terrible.
Susan, Charlie’s sister-in-law, was kind enough to literally have dinner on the table when we arrived so we didn’t have to suffer through any restaurant drama with our antsy kids. And now, two of our four are comfortably sleeping while the other two have been sucked into warfare via Playstation 3 with their uncle.
The only plans we really have here in Atlanta is a day spent in the city at the aquarium. I know we just did a great aquarium back in August in Baltimore but our Littles weren’t there and we’ve been wanting to see this one for AGES. They had just announced its coming arrival when we packed up and moved home back in 2002 so this is a new adventure for us! Plus back then, we only really had Chas…we left when Rhyse was eight months old.
This is the largest aquarium in the world (so it boasts) so we’re expecting a full day of fun. I’d like to pop by Centennial Olympic Park if there’s time and if the weather is co-operating. It’s 40 degrees now and it feels downright balmy outside compared to what we’re used to these days.
I don’t miss Atlanta at all when I’m home.
But coming back is sort of bittersweet for me.
I remember the good times…and there’s just something about this southern city that I love from the deepest part of my soul–it’s the whole region really.
Somewhere in this midwestern girl is a southern belle at heart.
I don’t know if we’ll have time to swing by our old neighborhood or not…we’re on the complete other side of town right now and it’s not like Columbus where you can get anywhere in 20 minutes. It would take us the better part of an hour to make the trip but maybe there will be time on Monday before we depart for the cabin.
We’ll see what we can handle :)
I hate that we lost a day here but I am so unbelievably grateful that my family is well. I was afraid that it would strike Greer today in the car but everyone is in wonderful spirits and it’s almost like the illness that slammed them never happened.
Weird.
I am able to blog from my phone but can’t seem to link my camera photos yet which is unfortunate because there’s a really good car barf picture of Creux that I’d love to show you from the other night!
Maybe we’ll get it figured out on this vacation if we have time…
Until then, here’s one snapshot from the car. I wasn’t in a picture taking mood today because I’d had my eardrums ruptured from Creux’s screeching. In an attempt to keep him quiet, I broke out my super secret lolly stash that I’d reserved for emergencies. I thought he wanted to choose his own but really, he just wanted ALL of them. He wasn’t planning on giving them back as you can see.
He’s pouting, watching “The Wiggles”, and holding captive the only supply of sugar I had to bargain with.
And tonight at dinner, the kids all sat together being entertained by older cousin Zach whom we had the pleasure of spying very quickly before he left for his own apartment and his own Littles-free life. He was super sweet with my gang, keeping them busy, playing a bit of Playstation with the boys and playing some sort of blanket dragging monster with my Littles.
It was the best 20 minutes of my whole day :)
Tomorrow we’re off and running!
See you then!
