As anyone with more than one observant child knows, they’re mentally tabulating “THEIRS” vs. “MINE.”
The last time we really worked in Chas’s room, which was when we hung his light and added his mirror a few months ago, I walked past Rhyse’s room to find him laying out things for me to hang in HIS room.
(Which I did not get around to at the time, other than sticking a few pushpins in the wall and attempting to pacify both of us with a quick fix until I could get around to properly squaring off more time for his stuff.)
So today, when I knew while Charlie was carefully measuring and hanging all of Chas’s new art works, I hunted around for some pieces of Rhyse’s that had also been waiting for a permanent home.
I found two that I thought would go wonderfully in their bathroom.

I ran it past him quickly, making sure he was okay with my idea (I had to snag the orange painting off the Wall of Temporary Pushpin in order to make this happen) and he seemed excited about it, only wanting me to make sure the nature shadowbox went on top so as to be far away from Calamity Creux’s calamity mitts.
When all was measured and hung, Rhyse happened to walk past Chas’s doorway.
And then he immediately turned and walked into the bathroom and beamed at his own art display.
I made a mental note to myself: things can’t always be even and equal and fair, but there’s no harm in making the effort when possible.
It makes a difference to them.
I’m loving all the new displayed pieces and only wish I’d done it sooner!
It’s important to me that this house be filled with bits of them everywhere they turn and lucky for us all, we have an amazing art teacher at our disposal!
I am forever indebted to her for digging out the “artist” in my boys, especially with Chas, who started with her at the tender age of six and claimed to hate art.
(I couldn’t even get him to color worksheets. I never made him, since most of it was “busy work” but it made me sad that it just wasn’t something he enjoyed. Now, he loves art with Miss Juli–they both do! And Greer will join the ranks this summer for a week-long art camp and then she’ll begin formal lessons in the fall.)
I’ve much, much, much more to sort through and gobs of wall space to cover between the schooling room, their bedrooms, and the playroom.
Instead of dreading the task of Home Finding, I’m rather looking forward to it.
These things deserve to be displayed and gosh darn it, I’m going to display them.
It may take me until they graduate from college but eventually, I’ll get there :)
(Tomorrow, I just want the lock fixed on my bathroom door. Charlie’s getting off easy!)
Here’s a closer look at his nature shadowbox–that’s a flower-printed cloth inside. Remember the days when flowers bloomed?

And the best thing I ever did was to make this small bathroom brightly-colored because I can use for both genders easily. I have to say, the mosaic mirror that we all made together is still my all-time favorite and adding Rhyse’s two pieces made it feel snug and cozier in there.

Of course, I’m now noticing that the new pieces need to be moved down just a smidge so that they’re level with the mirror.
That unevenness makes me nutty.
So Charlie ISN’T getting off so easy it turns out! HAHA!
(And do you think there’s something wrong with me? I mean, do other people even notice that type of crap? I can live with a certain amount of chaos and disorder in my home but once something is “done” it does have to be rather perfect or it will drive me crazy. And I, in turn, will drive HIM crazy until he fixes it. Am I a wackadoo?)
